Hair transplantation is a surgical procedure that involves hair follicles being moved from one area of the scalp to another. Follicles cannot be donated by another person, as the bodies immune system would reject them. Once in their new location, the follicles grow completely normal hair, which often looks stronger and healthier than surrounding existing hairs, and grows for a lifetime.Â
There are two different ways in which hair transplants can be performed:
First, there is a Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT, this is where the the follicles are removed all together in a strip formation. The follicles, or grafts, are then removed from the strip and implanted into the hair loss area of the scalp.
Follicular Unit Extraction, is a style of hair transplant where the extraction of the grafts is done by a small punch type instrument, harvesting the grafts in their natural groups of hairs. These individual grafts are then implanted into the hair loss area.
The front hairline is the most important part of a good hair transplant. It must be natural and completely undetectable to others.
